BG Homecare 400 cover

I received my renewal notice from British Gas on Friday and noticed they wanted increase the dd by £5.00 a month for my central heating cover etc. I phoned them and explained I would need to look elsewhere because of financial restraints.

The advisor went away and checked with her manager and came back with a new figure which is even cheaper than the amount I am paying now.

I have always found BG excellent and in this situation they went the extra metre for me. Well done!

So BG try it on and unless a savvy MSEr like the OP complains, they get away with it. I've had the same experience with insurance companies, threaten to go elsewhere and with luck they'll reduce the overinflated premium.

I wouldn't give BG any credit for their actions in this case.

    They increase mine by 10%

Told me that they took into account age of boiler etc

Reminded them that it was a NEW boiler, still under warranty!!!

They knocked the 10% back off!

    Jokers for trying it on!

Yep had the same problem with Tesco car insurance. They sent through a renewal notice and it has gone up by nearly £60 for the year. I challenged it and they go the price down by £40.00.

I advised them I would think about it and went on confused.com site and they came up with Tesco and was even cheaper that what I was paying a the moment. I was able to then to take that quote and in the end the insurance worked about £20.00 cheaper over what I was presently paying.

Pays to be savvy in these financially stretched times.

Well done !!!!!!!!! they try & con you out of an extra £5 a month & then give you a cheaper quote than the one you had been paying, so, they have actually been overcharging you:eek:

  • Yes, they offered me a discount straight away but I still cancelled the agreement because I want to save money and I haven't used the service more than a few times in five years. I'm going to risk it! Which? magazine said that most people are better off without Homecare or similar, especially when systems are quite new or little-used. Trim the fat!
