Hi all, i hope i am posting this in the correct place. I need to get my bank statements from Lloyds bank from 15 years ago, as we need to ascertain whether a certain direct debit was cancelled by us regarding an endowment policy, is it possible that banks keep copies of bank statements this long? also we need to get copies of any correspondence between us and Lloyds around that time, are they likely to keep records of these?
Thank you to anyone that can help in advance.

generally most records are kept for 6 years at most0

Even in the unlikely event that they were available, I'm not sure how old bank statements would show a direct debit had been cancelled. The best you could hope for is to show that a regular DD payment had ceased (not necessarily the same as cancellation).
I trust you have not just discovered that you have been making payments for 15 years?
If it is any help, under the dormancy rule, if no payment is made on a DD for thirteen months it should automatically be cancelled.0 -
Lloyds accounts are kept on microfiche for a maximum of 10 years so unless you have your own copies yu are stuffed.
You have absolutely no chance of getting copy correspondence from that time period.0 -
Thanks for the replies so far, this all concerns an endowment policy we took out with Barclays in 1995, we found the original policy account number, and on asking Barclays what had happened to the endowment, were told, the endownment had lapsed with no value due to the direct debit being dishonoured, as far as we can remember, the direct debit which was with Lloyds bank had never been cancelled by us, and had always had sufficient funds in it, anybody know a good forensic accountant? lol0

Barclays would have written to you at the time to inform you that the DD had failed and that the policy would lapse.
Plus you have had 16 years to notice that you haven't been paying the premium.0 -
Ah, does this relate to the issue you first mentioned in 2007 and then again in 2009?;)0

From the 2007 postThere is however a twist, the mortgage is an endowment, but after we had been in the house for about 3 years, we noticed that Barclays had never taken the money from our bank account for the endowment part of the mortgage, only the interest part, i know we should have done something about it at the time, but we let it slip, and to this day we only pay the interest, which now is approx £290 a month
You knew the endowment premium had not been paid 12 years ago!
The time to have done something about it was then.
Even if you were able to find out why the DD was not taken 15 years ago what do you hope to acheive now?0
