"Apply to the Access to Learning Fund, although do it pretty sharpish. There is also something called a "Summer Assistance Fund" for students who cannot work over the summer but cannot recieve income support"

Hi thanks for the suggestions unfortunately those don't appear available in Scotland. And cant really find a similar thing up here but thanks anyway.
Will hopefully have some luck on Monday.

If you'd mentioned that you were in Scotland, you might have received more accurate advice as well. People do try to help but we're not mind readers.
  • I'm sure your university has some sort of assistance for students who cannot work over the summer
  • Hi pcdave21,
I sympathise with this, having sought to retrain after redundancy from long term job and with my family grown up therefore no entitlement to support during summer. By all means approach Student Services at the college/uni, but I fear you may find that hardship funds etc are long gone.
Other than that you could try asking if a reduced rent, etc payments will be acceptable to landlord, etc, plus keep trying jobwise, agencies, borrow, sell on ebay, use all the frugal tips u can lay your hands on.
In my second year I managed to get part time work. Had to leave some classes early. Lecturers generally don't want students to work because it IS very stressful trying to do both, particularly if job is low paid, low status, but this is the real world.
I know how scary this is, I risked losing the roof over my and my son's heads. I did have contribution from his wage. Now I've graduated I at least still have p/t work while I search for more. Good luck,if all else fails can u return to parents / share with mate / trade car etc? All the best.

Thanks for the support. I have nearly everything worth money on ebay at the moment :) College has pretty much said as you thought that they had a little money and it was gone in January. If everything on ebay sells well I could be able to make it till august so will hopefully have some work by then or its off to the bank of mum and dad as a last resort
