Scottish power annual breakdown..what the..!?

Hi
Im on a pre-pay meter on the ComfortPlus White Meter tariff.
Live in a 2 bedroom flat on my own and try to be careful with the leccy.
I was surprised this morning when I got a breakdown of the previous years electricity usage and seemingly I used 6161kWh the previous year?
Compared to the national average from different websites, this seems VERY high for a bloke on his own in a two bedroom flat.
I had my storage heaters on very briefly during the cold winter there but was aware of the cost, so didn't use them much at all.
Thats the only thing I can think of..but even then its really high? In fact the breakdown for that period does not show any major spike in usage during the winter.....

What do you think?
*EDIT* Bill removed, not at home and cant rescan!

Finally...
in my situation is there a cheaper Tariff/Supplier I could be looking in to?
Need to pinch the pennies, especially with the increase in cost and I wonder if Im getting best value for my money with Scottish Power on my current tariff.

Thanks VERY much for any help or advice.

    Hi,

can't help with that, but i would recommend you obscure some of the details on that scan of the bill.

You need to obscure your meter number and also the rectangular box with two lines of numbers in it and a big letter S in front of it. This information can be used to identify your address and someone malicious could use it to try and change your supply to someone else. Although this can be sorted out it would cause much annoyance for you.

6000kWh per annum in an all electric 2 bed flat seems low to me.
(by contrast, the average for a 3 bed dual fuel home is almost 20,000kWh of energy per year)

It doesn't matter that you live alone; if anything that may suggest you would need to use more energy keeping it warm

You have a 3 rate supply; essentially a day & night rate for most uses and a low heating (and possibly hot water) rate.
Don't even think of attempting to switch supplier; any attempt by those in your situation inevitably results in tears as other suppliers cannot support your tariff

Thanks for that, had no idea.

Could yelaborate a little bit on that please?
    Sounds serious!

Am I really on the best possible VFM tariff?
    What about Economy 7?

    thanks.
  • F.Y.I. I live in a 4 bed detached house and my electricity consumption is just under 4,000 kWh per year. I have gas central heating.

No offence, but are you sure about that?
Having looked around online the average consumption seems a fair bit lower than that?

(Study done by University of Strathclyde)

other information seems to show around 4K average for electricity...?

    thanks.

The average of 4,500kWH is for properties with gas CH and DHW.
For an all-electric house, 6,161kWh is extremely low.

No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Check your bill charges are correct. We used to have white meter heating and had to argue regularly that charges were incorrect.

Low rate is your overnight rate and should cost less (used to be 1/2 price between midnight at 8am). This is when your storage heaters charge up. Also check your storage heaters are working properly - they have elements inside them (a bit like the inside of a kettle). If not maintained they still use the same amount of electricity but don't give out any heat.

If you use your heaters on the boost setting during the day then it'll cost you twice the price.
