Can I play AVI file movies via LG TV USB?

Hi,
I have the following TV - LG Model 42PJ350
I have a few movies in avi format on an external hard drive.
The manual for the TV says that as soon as the USB is plugged in, a menu will appear - which it does. BUT, only Photos or Music. The option for Movies doesn't appear?
I can navigate around the contents of the Hard drive, and can see the file, but can't click on it to play?
I have tried both the hard drive & flash drive, and have also placed the avi files within separate folders and not, but have the same problem.
Is it possible for me to watch these movies on my TV?
Thanks

Is it a USB 1 or USB 2 HDD?
According to the manual for this TV:USB storage devices below USB 2.0 are supported as well. But they may not work properly in the movie list0 -

It needs a firmware hack. I've done it on my LG LH3000 but there is a risk you could brick your TV and invalidate your warranty.

I believe that is the case but I don't have the same model as you. Google is your friend.604!0 -

In the manual from the post above (page 60) it says:-
Movie(*.dat/*.mpg/*.mpeg/*.ts/*.trp/*.tp/*.vob/*.mp4/*.mkv/*.avi/*.divx) supporting file
Video format :
DivX3.1 DivX4.12, DivX5.x, DivX6, Xvid1.00, Xvid1.01, Xvid1.02, Xvid1.03, Xvid 1.10-1,beta-1/beta-2, Mpeg-1, Mpeg-2, Mpeg-4, H.264/AVC
So check your avi files with MediaInfo to see if they are one of the supported Video formats.
