52 Phone calls in 4 days

Options
Just wondered if anyone else had this problem after sending their first letter to the bank for details of their charges.

On Tuesday I posted my first letter to the Bank of Scotland asking for details of all the charges for the last six years and included my £10 cheque for payment.

I suspect they received my letter on Wednesday because on Thursday I started receiving phone calls from them concerning my Visa card payment which was a bit late, totally forgot all about it due to the festive season.

I was not available to take the call and my wife answered it but was not in the position to access the message as it was an automatic call and asked for verification.

I was not returning home till late that evening but when I returned my wife was in tears, the phone had rung 9 times between 9am and 6pm that evening and always the same automated message.

She was starting to think it was someone trying our number to see if the house was occupied and was getting a bit frightened, she hardly slept all night.

The next day was the same, phone calls about every 90 minutes, I tried accessing the message but most times it would say there were no operators available and they would call me back.

I went to do some shopping and she called me to let me know it was still happening, I told her to switch the phone off but ofcourse she couldn't as she has to have the phone to have contact as my mother does not keep very well.

When it came to Monday, I was there to get the call and sure enough at precisely 9am the phone rang, I followed the instructions and got the message that my payment of £29 had not been received, I confirmed that it would be paid within 14 days and thought this was the end of it.

Ninety minutes later another call and this has continued all day and today also.

It must be near 52 calls in 4 days, I don't know for sure if this is because I have sent my first letter but there must be a law agaainst this sort of thing, In my opinion it's nothing short of harassment and made me even more determined to follow this through to the end.

If anyone knows where I can make a complaint about getting this amount of calls please let me know, I have searched but can't find anything anywhere.

I now have my phone ringer down low to let my wife get some sleep.

Help appreciated

  • me personally would write a phone log of times of calls, or phone up BT and tell them to barr the number as they are nucience calls. I would then march down to my local bank and give the manager some and explain to him in no uncertain terms nobody from the bank is ever to contact you by phone again. Tell them you will only accept written correspondance.
  • I would think that is just a coincidence with rotten timing. Chances are that the calls are number withheld (do 1471 to find out) but BT will discuss your options with you if you dial 150 (free) customer services and explain your situation. You may well end up having to pay a fee to BT depending upon which option you take. Good luck.

BT can withold numbers via thier nuisance system when the no is withheld.

I have had this from them when my OHs delightful ex GF seemed to be ringing our flat on a withheld no. bt give you a code that you tap in after the nuisance callers have called. this withholds any call coming from that line where it was made from.

I think I got 6 weeks free, cancelled it before I got charged ;)
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind

So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • Thanks guys for your comments, no calls today, don't know whether they have given up or maybe someone read this post but it's stopped anyway.

Looking forward to getting my charge details from the bank though and will post if I hear anything.
