Reading this with interest as I too need a bit of help..........
I have had a excel file deleted (two actually) and mangaed to find it by installing a program called "recuva" but it says unrecoverable and this file has been overwritten. I have tried to open it but with no joy,, anyone have any advice?
Regards

You can try other recovery software, but if it's already been overwritten, then you're not going to recover it.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

If you have a virus on your computer then DO NOT USE that computer to log into Paypal, bank accounts, etc. until you are thoroughly satisfied your computer is clean. You seem to be happy as Larry now you've got your missing documents back, but if I were you I'd be far more worried about potentially missing money!
Also, cover your webcam if you have one, as many Trojans allow hackers to spy on people remotely and record them (you won't even realise they're doing this - unless they want you to!)0 -

I have an AV program that I use and is updated on a weekly basis so I'm not really worried about that side but I am far from "happy as Larry" because the document that I have retrieved is for a lottery syndicate and is a record of the payments and I can't open it!!!!.
Although you may think your advice may help me I'm afraid I find it a bit negative, sorry.
So, it looks like I may have to trust the members of the syndicate to pay me what they think they owe me and take the loss, if any, on the chin. (note to self, back up to a memory stick!!!)
