Replacement combi boiler

Hello,
My current Baxi 80he combi boiler is on its last legs and now has developed another leak.
After doing some research into replacing it I have been looking at either a Potterton 33HE gold or a Baxi Duo Tech 33HE.
I have 7 radiators across three floors and also 2 heated towel rails (i'm not sure if these count as radiators?)
Can anyone advise me which of the two would be better?
I've had a company come out today to give me a quote for replacement and he said the Potterton was an old model and not worth it and would instead fit an Ideal Logic Plus 35 as they come with a 5 year guarantee. Does anyone have one of these boliers and would they recommend them?
Thanks for any advice!

Heated towel rails would count as radiators as they do radiate heat, they are just usually much lower in output.0

You should be looking at viessman, vailant or Worcester Bosch. Not any of the ones you mention.0

How old is your current boiler? It should be repaiable surely?
As to your suggestions, I would never have any Ideal boiler, awful things.
My recommendations would be:
Vaillant, Worcester/Bosch, Weissman or even a GlowWorm.
But to be honest, I'd get a second opinion on whether a replacement is really needed. You have been reading.....another magnificent post by garethgas :beer:0 -

Good morning: none of the boilers mentioned in your post are at the top of my list (they make it onto the 'not a chance' list... in fact, the Ideal brand strikes fear in the hearts of experienced RGIs;)). The OH installs Vaillant, Viessmann and Remeha (budget option) with a Magnabooster2 magnetic filter and follows the Benchmark requirements.
Keep in mind...annual servicing will be required to maintain the warranty (check terms and conditions on the manufacturer's websites for further details).

we have a worcester bosch 30 cdi and have had no issues with it at all.
you get what you pay for, is it worth saving a few hundred pounds now to have the extra expense down the line when your cheap boiler fails or develops a fault. You got to get through what you've got to go through to get what you want but you got to know what you want to get through what you got to go through.0 -
The clue should be in the fact that your replacing a relatively new condensing boiler. The Baxi has obviously given you a short life, why would you install another one? Steer clear. As for the person who told you to avoid and chose the Ideal..... ha ha...... they need shooting.
As suggested, Vaillant and Viessmann are a good choice.0 -
Potterton Gold and Baxi Duo-Tec are identical boilers apart from the badge.
Look at Atmos Inter32 or the Intergas HRE range.0 -
Thanks for your posts I have a different heating engineer coming tomorrow to give me a quote on a Valliant combi.
I've also had a second opinion on my current boiler and it would be more economically viable to have it replaced rather thean repaired as since it was installed most of the radiators have been increased in size and extras added and a bedroom extension and loft conversion added so the boiler does not really have the capacity to run showers and heating at the same time.
Thanks again for your comments and opinions!0 -
Your boiler being a combi, or any combi come to that, will never be able to do showers and heating at the same time.
All combi's do either, with HW taking the priority when a tap is turned on.
80,000btu/24Kw to heating is a massive amount. About 2 to 3 times the normal size house would need0 -

Good grief! How big is your house?
No combi will give you heating AND hot water. It will be one or the other. Unless of course that reference is to the hot water output.
I still find it hard to believe that a boiler of this age is beyond economical repair.
Whilst not the best, they're not exactly rubbish either. B. Gas do a fixed price repair which would sort it out for a fraction of the cost.
What exactly is the fault? You have been reading.....another magnificent post by garethgas :beer:0
