The disc that you sent me ends upwith a blue screen each time.

I managed to install windows Ok from the original disc. Each time it gave an error and wasn't able to find a file, all I needed to do was open the drive , reposittion the disc and close the drive and then it found the file. I needed to do that about three times in all but it worked.

I don't suppose it makes much difference but the version of XP that was supplied is the home version and not the pro version.

    Wish I had now.

Thought it'd be better to completely start again.

What is the Blue Screen error?

Anyway, you may need to format the disc again, as you may have partial installations.

The screen was blue and it gave a message - something about fatal error and reference to' If I recently installed some software or hardware to remove & re-install' Etc.

Anyway as you say. I shall reformat then.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

Anything I should take heed of first?

Just went to run the Dell disc and after a while got an error message.

'file SETUP.H1V cannot be loaded' - then 'Error 1024' then Setup cannot continue, 'hit any key to exit'.

    Great

tried that too but each time it crashed BUTI persevered with my disk after putting the original cd drive in and after 3 attempts it installed and I finally got the XP screen up.

I shall continue with the install now and hope that everythi ng is OK

Thanks for your help once again.
