As I am having trouble getting smooth iPlayer HD on my laptops (https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3125460), I wondered whether any other devices such as blu-ray players or Freeview HD recorders can play iPlayer HD? Some list iPlayer (e.g. https://www.johnlewis.com/231299044/Product.aspx) but this does not mention HD. Does anyone here have a non computer device which smoothly plays iPlayer HD through their television?

If its jerky - its your broadband connection which is making it jerky, not the hardware though a rubbish spec machine will no doubt struggle.0

It's not my broadband as the downloads are jerky too, well, maybe not jerky but not as smooth as it should be. My hardware is an Acer 5741-A laptop with an i3-350M processor and 3GB of RAM.0 -
I have a Sony BluRay player (BDP-S370) hooked up to my Belkin Broadband router via a VERY long Cat-5 cable and I have no problems at all with iPlayer HD programmes. I think the cable is the key - HD streaming is bandwidth hungry and if you're trying to get it via WiFi, it might slow down or stop when there is a lot of other traffic on the network.

Thanks. I have an LG blu-ray player connected to my router with an ethernet cable, but unfortunately it only has YouTube and that is poor. I think an upgrade to a more modern blu-ray player that can handle iPlayer may be worthwhile, and it saves me connecting my laptop each time. Ideally I'd like a blu-ray/iPlayer/Freeview HD recorder combi but I am not sure if such a device exists. I'll have a look around...0
