hsbc overdraft help!!!!

can you freeze an overdraft or ask for it to be repaid over a longer period, in a bit of a pickle and i have no money, i am over my overdraft limit my wages go in in a couple of days and my overdraft will swallow it up, are the banks allowed to leave you without any money to live on
please help and advice would be great

  • Any overdraft is payable on demand. The bank might, or might not, extend your agreed overdraft to the limit you have already set by going over the agreed limit. They might, or they might not, turn the overdraft into a loan. Having exceeded your limit, will not have put you into the bank’s good books.

    So talk to your bank and sort it out. Nobody in this forum (unless 'Mystic Meg' is a member here) can tell you, what your banks intents to do.
  • I had the same problem with HSBC and they basically said that as long as my wages were going into my overdraft account they will always recover their debts first. The only way round it is to open an account with another bank, put your wages in there and then ask them to freeze your overdraft. As nothing is going into your account they can't really do much else. See national debtline website for more details on freezing interest etc.
    My mind not only wanders .......... sometimes it leaves completely
