Folks:
When paying for goods or services over the phone or internet by credit card, is it legal (or ethical) for the company to take the funds straight away if the goods aren’t ready to be shipped ?? (or the service doesn’t start straight way)
Are they obliged to ask for your permission you if they do?
thanks

Depends if the business you're ordering from works from held stock or if they order to ship....
Most of the companies I work for ship direct from a third party supplier which is totally invisible to the end consumer. Just check the shizzle you want is in stock or can be shipped quickly."We want the finest wines available to humanity, we want them here, and we want them now!"0 -
This kind of question gets asked a lot on the credit card boards... as a general rule, you can be fairly certain that (i) it's legal - most companies hire legions of expensive lawyers to advise them on that sort of thing; and (ii) it doesn't really matter whether it's ethical or not!0

It's not always as straightforward as that - I've pre-ordered games, blu-rays etc. from various online stores, sometimes weeks in advance of release, and even the reputable likes of Argos and Tesco Direct have taken the money straight away0 -
Well if it's a big deal, then why not check their terms and conditions first?
Amazon for example don't charge until they ship something.0 -
I fit bothers you, only use the companies that do not take the money until shipped.0

I had a company ship me contact lenses for one eye once, they couldn't supply the lenses for the other eye.
Some of it requires a bit of common sense !!!!0 -
OK, but if they do charge before they ship ... are they obidged to tell you up front?0
