OH and I went to DFS "For a look" last Sunday.
Needless to say, the hardsell was given and we decided to see if OH could get the sofas on credit...4 yrs free and nothing to pay until Jan 2012 - nice!!
Salesman gave us the spiel about the "Sofas come with a stain guard for 5 years" and how we'd only have to put down an £80 deposit.
Well, £100 deposit later, OH was trying to find his bank details online and the salesman decided he'd finished with us. I was flicking through the finance form and lo & behold - £160 Stain guard insurance!! I tried to speak to the manager but she was busy with other customers so we waited.....
Salesman came back and asked if we were ok. Told him no and that he had said the sofa "Came with the stain cover" not that it would cost us! He proceeded to tell me the cover was optional and that he'd been selling for 12 years, blah blah.....
Told him i felt he had mis-sold me the policy and he got rather beligerent (great customer service!!) Also bunged a £39 delivery charge on. Dont mind paying for delivery - AS LONG AS IM TOLD IN ADVANCE.
Anyhow - Next morning i was looking at DFS' website and noticed the glaring "We dont charge a deposit - ever" statement, so called store manager. He tols me that he was sorry if we felt salesmen had been trying to achieve his targets a bit too aggressively. Credit hadnt gone through so we were given the option to cancel for a full refund of the £100 paid (Said they would refund it anyway). Took them up on this and was told "Should be sorted by the end of the week" HA!! Rang them this afternoon, only to be told that it takes 14 days to get a refund.....
Well, OH not happy about that so threatened to go down to the store if refund not done. 10 mins later, call from the store manager to say it would be done today and back on his card by Weds at the latest :mad:
Rant Over - thank you for listening!! Just make sure that you check EVERYTHING when buying from DFS!

Sounds like typical DFS sales techniques, with their reputation for customer service and cheap rubbish furniture which a bit of simple online research shows before going near one of their stores I can never understand why people still use them.0

Its the first and last time ive ever had dealings with them. shall be spreading the word about how "Not customer focussed" they are.....0 -
But...But...BUT THEY HAVE SALES ENDING NEXT WEEK!!!!?!!!0

I guess you didn't read the finance agreement before signing it as that would of shown the extra cost of the stain guard.????
Totally agree you should of been advised about the delivery charge though.0 -
DFS - as stated on here by others, it could also stand for:
Dog's First Sofa
Damned Finish-less Sales
Drab Furniture Stores0 -

And no matter when this thread resurfaces that will remain true.
I love the way the overexcited narrator on the ads says: "SALE MUST END ON SUNDAY".
No it mustn't. The DFS top kiddie could extend it any time s/he wanted to.
(Unless they mean it must end on Sunday so that there is at least a one day gap before the next one starts.)There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

Thing is, they told us categorically that it "Came with the stain guard". not "It comes with stain guard-at a price". I did flag it up before we left the store though and "wasnt allowed" to change it until he rang a couple of days later - by which time the finance would already have gone through.
Still, ,a lesson learned for me too - NO MORE Dodgy Flipping Sofas!!!!!0 -
Thanks for your post on your DFS experience.
Was in the store today looking for a leather and the wifes got her eye on their Caluso range.
Wanted to purchase a three seater, two seater and a single chair, in brown good quality leather and with recliners (electric for the chair if possble) but was £3300.
Does anybody know where we could get this range cheaper? or could anybody recommend a good quality manufacturer/retailer who deliver in the Essex area?
Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks0 -
In sitting on a dfs leather corner unit as i type this, love the thing but im tired of the leather peeling and having to get the dfs bloke out to touch it up.He has been 3 times in 2 and a half years(anybody know where i can find mocha brown touch up kit so i can do it myself?).Bottom line is if you want quality leather you have to pay for it,not dfs standard as ive learnt.0
