Why should i pay an extra £40 to them when im already paying more pi$$ing interest than what the actualy tv costs and worth. They are ripping me off as it is.
By all means you shouldn't pay more than that value, and you should get them to prove when your last payment is compared to how much you've paid so you've paid off that amount.0 -
I've got a new idea for you OP - why not speak to Brighthouse and explain to them that you feel the balance should be paid in June based on 148 weeks (and on the assumption you haven't missed a single payment in the 3 years) and see what they say - who knows, it might just be a simple error on their part.
Also; how do you pay them, if not electronically is there a chance that a few of the payments didn't reach them?"We can all fly as high as the dreams we dare to live...........unless we are a chicken" ~ Anon.0 -
I am reading what you've said and I understand it, my point was that the logical step for it running longer than previously anticipated is that the balance is higher than it was.
The two reasons I can think for this happening are that
a) the interest rate has gone up
b the VAT rate went up to 20% on the residual balance at the turn of the year and they passed this on
or the service / protection policy are for full years (i.e. 52 weeks)? - but in this case the final 8 weeks payments would be reduced to £2.24“That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing.”0 -
Didn't say you should, but 148 * £5.16 is the £736.68 you said was 'taking the pi$$'. We've explained that over 148 weeks that is what you agreed to.

No i never said that some one else said thats how much it cost.
On my agreement they have said £763.68 but adding the cost of the tv and interest came it doesnt come to that. 304 and 432. thats the bit at first i couldnt understand as that doesnt come to that. and the fact that i seem to paying more than 148weeks stated on the agreement from the start date and end date.0 -

OMFG - the cheek of it! I gave 100% more reasoning than this as to why the balance could be higher than you thought and I get no recognition - what a travesty! :P"We can all fly as high as the dreams we dare to live...........unless we are a chicken" ~ Anon.0 -

Ok I'll try post 14 again in simpler steps. Tell me what you don't agree with.daisyduke1 wrote:The APR is 29.9%
This is what it says on yearly statement.
Total amount of Credit £304.88, Rate of interest 29.9% per annum, Duration 148 weeks. Total amount payable £432.16 to be paid at £2.92.
The Agreement i signed says. cash price for TV £305.53
They lent you £304.88 to buy the TV @ 29.9% APR.
This is £2.92 per week.
£2.92 * 148 = £432.16 for the £304.88 loan for the TV.
Agree so far that you should be paying £432.16 for the TV alone?daisyduke1 wrote:I pay £5.16 a week as there is optional service cover at £1.57 and damage cover at 0.67. so 2.99 add the covers brings it to my weekly payments of £5.16 so this bit is correct. everything elses doenst add up.
You've agreed to add on additional cover above the cost of the TV.
This is £2.24 per week in total.
£2.24 * 148 = £331.52 for the service/damage cover
Agree?
Total
So in total, you've agreed to pay 432.16 for the TV and £331.52 for the optional cover policies.
That's £736.88 in total over the 148 weeks.
Or, even in your own figures you know you're paying £5.16 * 148 weeks. That's £736.68. I'll give you the 20p difference!0 -

I'll let you off this once
It is unfortunate but that's how these businesses make a killing - taking advantage of people who otherwise cannot afford an item, and charging the earth for the rest of your life for it!
(Before anyone starts on the "try saving for things" - yes I agree, but things like a washing machine are harder to do without whilst you save for a couple of years!).
Hope you get it resolved one way or another, you never know they might just admit a mistake, and it'll be fine, otherwise they'll explain a balance increase I suspect."We can all fly as high as the dreams we dare to live...........unless we are a chicken" ~ Anon.0
