Any Locksmiths around please

I am trying to get a cost for supplying and fitting 3x EN1303(Anti snap, anti drill,Anti pick, anti bump Euro locks) and also supply and fit 4 sash jammers to a set of french doors.

Also what is the difference in price between a normal std Euro lock and a EN1303 lock

Just feel as if Ive been ripped off by a company who did some work for me while here doing some insurance work after a recent burglary.

Many Thanks

You could do all that work yourself, google changing a cyliner lock for videos on how to do it, and the same for sash jammers.

Cylinders vary in price from £8 to £40 + for anti snap.
  • fitting locks really isn't difficult. im 16 with no experience and I managed to install a bs deadlock, bs sashlock, nightlatch and euro profile deadlock. I found the video below usefull. sorry I know its for a mortice lock not euro profile but hopefully of some help.

If you don't need to get the euro profile deadlocks I would recommend the bs-3621 mortice deadlocks as they are usually more secure and a lot cheaper. a good Yale bs3621 deadlock around £25.
It also depends on the size of the property and the location. if you live in London I would recommend Banham and Ingersoll but they'll set you back alot. http://shop.banham.co.uk/
the cylinder itself for one of a high standard-around £35 each
    cylinder lock case-around £20 each
    sash jammer- around £6 each

You can fit them yourself without too much trouble. Sash jammers are again easy to fit and provide more protection to doors and windows. Make sure you measure for your locks correctly, they should be flush with the handles. If you used a locksmith you should expect to pay around £150 for all that to be done.

So would you agree that paying £290 + VAT is a rip off especially as the fitter was already here doing insurance work

I shall name and shame the company later next week if I dont get a favourable response from them

I needed front and back door lock replaced. Standard PVC doors so fairly straighforward job.

Local locksmith in Park Gate Southampton wanted £75 a lock when I popped in to ask.

Local handyman did the pair for £20 plus cost of locks.

Yes I think £290 + VAT is well excessive. Like every trade there are those of us that treat customers fairly and those that do not. The locks are about £25 - £30 each and you can get sash jammers for £5 each (£20 for 4) plus an hours labour.

Look around for a better quote, you should get it for less that £200 all in.
