Solicitor asking for proof of funds

And what if the person you are dealing with does not have a passport?? a UK citizen born in this country and has had no reason to leave is not actually legally required to have a passport and by the same token unless a person drives there is no legal requirement to have a driving license.
In fact there is no legal requirement for anybody to possess photo ID at all.
When I sold my flat and bought a house for cash (out of the proceeds of the flat sale) I didnt provide anyone with photo ID as I dont have any.
I told my solicitor as there is no legal requirement to have photo ID there cannot be a legal requirement to show photo ID, he used other means and so did the EA who was selling my flat, the EA who sold me my house didnt even ask for any ID what so ever.
Frankly, it's a PITA, as is the Asset Freeze checking procedure we have to go through for every applicant but unfortunately, no-one transacts business without these checks being made. My post detailing the reasons for the checks shouldn't be construed as my liking for, or acceptance of them.I am a mortgage broker. ....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

: How I see It : All peasants holding amounts of money in excess of what a surf is "allowed to own" are considered criminals, this is because "they" are quite convinced they have manged to screw us to the floor and take every spare penny we have left back off us, they get kind of annoyed when you find a way around it and accuse you of stealing from your masters.
You will be subjected to criminal investigations as to where the money was stolen from by bicksittle servants and informants of this stinking corrupt state we call home.
Once they can not prove you stole it or earned it without letting them have the lions share they give you it back.
Nothing to do with Laundering, people who do that are far to clever for the pigs in troughs to catch out.

I had a letter from the solicitor about this too. Half of our deposit is from savings over the years (got bank statements, P60, payslips etc) but the other half I inherited from my aunt so I can understand the big cash deposit going into my account might look a bit strange but I'm not sure what 'proof' I need- do they want a copy of her will? She died in late 2009 but I only got the money in February of this year. Is that long enough in my account to not look suspicious or do I need something else?0

They must still do medical cards, we got one for each of us confirming our doctor's details when we moved here seven years ago. The NI card used to be a white card with your national insurance number printed on it. In the 80s or 90s it changed to a blue and red credit-card type plastic thing with your national insurance number embossed on it.
This is a copy of the current Yorkshire BS list I found earlier;-

I've been trying to sell recently, and my first time buyer was supposed to be paying for some of the deposit with money from a parent. On the day
of exchange, the ftb pulled out and said that this was because the parent could no longer provide the money. Whilst I accept that this might not be the truth, I can't help thinking that if their solicitor had been a bit more rigorous in terms of asking for proof of funds, I might not have gone through several months of negotiations and quite a lot of legal fees.0
