The DD has to be in place before the statement date. Only when you see the message "your payment will be collected from your nominated account on xx/xx/xx" on your statement are you guaranteed it will be collected.
Wish they'd made that clear and NOT said on the website quite clearly that the next payment was 16 June!0 -
Looking back at it, no.
But, having set up the DD, having seen it confirmed on the website and knowing that I'd not made any more purchases I had no need to find the PDF and download it (keep in mind it's all online and they don't send me paper statements, unless I pay £20.00 or something).
It's all very underhanded on their part.0 -
I know when I set mine up with Natwest, it did say, until your statement tells you the money will be collected by direct debit please pay by another method.
You initiated the set it up around the 18th May and the statement must have been issued around the 21 or 22 May.
Yes on the surface you attempt to set up on 18th May payment due on 16th next month seems a long time. But the DD needs to be in place by the statement issue date so there wasn't enough time between attempting to set up and the statement date.
Imagine if a customer understood that another payment method needed to be made until the statement reads the DD bit and made a payment in another way and then Natwest took the DD amount as well, thus leaving them overdrawn or without money for the remainer of the month.
I think you might if you are humble and write to them or speak to their customer service get the 0% re-instated, but ultimately you have no right to complain IMO.0
