Student car insurance problems

Can anyone help me, my son took out car insurance in Dec has a student, i rang and informed the company in April of this year that he had finished his course and is now working casually has a warehouseman, because he had an accident in March they are saying they cannot change the account from Student cause there is a claim on the policy. The problem is he now has to change his car and they are quoting a £200 + charge for changing insurance to a new car because he has changed his occupation and has a claim on the policy, Its really frustrating and i have contacted them several times only to be told there is nothing i can do and if he changes his car he will have to pay the charges quoted. They also told me he cannot cancel because it has a claim on the policy, seems we are in a no win situation, The original policy was over £1000, and his car is now in direpair so had to be changed, Does anyone have any advice on what we can try. Thanks Ange. x

I dont understand this.
If he is no longer a student and is working, the insurer cannot refuse to update their details. THese are the facts.
What are they charging for, is it that the new car is more powerful, higher insurance group etc? In which case that is perfectly normal.0 -
Hi, no he is going from a 1.9 to a 1.2, because he has lost his no claims with having a accident, i really don't understand it either, but they won't budge on saying he can't update because there's been a claim, looks like i'm going to have to go CAB, thought i might try this forum first.I dont understand this.

This sounds like they are saying that the original underwriter won't accept his new occupation.
Get them to explain to you what is going on. Or rather get your son to speak to them - it may be they aren't telling you the full story as it's not your policy.0 -
i wouldnt have thought a warehouseman would have been declined insurance...hardly makes him a high risk individual..
but yes your son should be doing the ringing0 -
If they won't speak to you, just get your son to authorise them to.
And good for you for ringing up for him.
I'll ring up for my kids too, experience counts for everything in situations like this.0
