Wait for a letter. If one doesnt come then forget about it. In fact forget about it until a letter arrives.

Town centre cameras are mostly aimed at drunks fighting rather than motorists, so I would be surprised if you hear anything more.

If you do, it's a fine and three points.

See page 137 of this document:

  • If they are council operated cameras, can they be used as to prosecute motoring offences such as this?
I know they are okay for parking fines as in a lot of places the councils now have the powers to issue these fines, but I'm not too sure about other motoring offences.

@ Never Again: Thanks for the .PDF it clearly says 3 points and fine. so if i get a letter am officially fu'ed. i already have 9 points i know you are laughing but trust me i was one of those guys who like to trust blindly.. i dont wanna go into the details how i get the 9 points, tho 3 was overspeeding when i was learning 3 years ago and 6 when i bought my late BMW 2 years ago and it wasnt insured while i had the comprehensive insurance on my other car.. anyway, to lets create real situation now.. i have my license for nearly 4 years now, obviously i passed the test twice as my first license was revoked.. now if i get the penalty points and fine am going to end up having 12 points on my license which means am gona have present myself infornt of the magistrate.. i might get banned for couple of years or might end up in a jail.. if that happens what best i can do to request them to take off the point? any logical suggestion is greatly appreciated?

If you need the car for your job or it's important as you live in a rural area with elderly parents to look after etc you might get to keep your license. Anyway, chill, you've not got 12 points yet but try to drive a bit more sensibly in future and you wont have any worries.

They're not going to throw you away for a (fairly minor) motoring infraction... years ago I stupidly briefly entered a one-way the wrong way around in a strange town and was collared by a nearly police patrol; I was let go with a stern ticking off.

I'd be very surprised if you get the letter. Even then I didn't think a ban was longer than a few months? Even drink-drivers often don't get two years.

If you go to jail for accruing 12 points on your licence I must be in a parallel universe :rotfl: No offence OP.

Seriously the worst you will get is a ban for a couple of months, maybe 6 max. Although if you got 3 points for speeding over 3 years ago they are now obsolete & you can apply to have them removed.

I would have thought it unlikely you will hear anything in these circumstances, although with some of the councils we have now anything is possible :D

@ David: Thanks mate.. that street used to be a two ways and over the weekends loads of people including myself used to park the cars on double yellows while the police and security officers were there as there are quite a few clubs and pubs... that road layout only changed few weeks ago.. anyway.. thanks for the suggestion..

@ Jase: cheers mate.. keeping my finger crossed!!

@ Blue Fox: man you cracked me up.. cant remember when was the last time i laugh in last 24 hrs ever since i got told by that taxi driver.. lol
well, the standard length for any points is four years so i still have good few months left for the overspeeding points to obsolete..
i live in Reading and the reading town centre is happened to be the most notorious town when it comes to driving.. Grrrrrrrr

Were you speeding or parked on double yellows? if not then I dare say nothing will happen and if anything it'd be just a fine.
