wildly different quote comparison sites?!

Hello,

I entered the exact same annual KWH usage and postcode into energyhelpline, simply switch and moneysupermarket. They all suggested the same 3 providers in slightly different order but according to energyhelpline the savings we could make are almost twice that than the other two and thats for all 3 quoting for a dual fuel change.

Has this happened to anyone else? Have I done something wrong? Which to go with?

Thanks!

Probably not, different sites may have different aged pricing information or offers unique to them.

It is always best to see what they say and so to the suppliers site and check it out for yourself. Just so you know you have the most up to date informtion.

If your existing tariff is one that is coming to an end shortly, eg fixed or capped etc, then energy helpline works out the savings differently to the others.

They take your annual spend as the remaining part of your existing tariff and then add on the time at the tariff your supplier will switch you to, this will make your annual spend higher and thus your savings greater.

There is an option on the energyhelpline results for you to view the results without this manipulation.

They should all be using the same "aged" prices.

The difference is how they have worked out your current spend, if you are on a tariff that expires in the next 12 months then energyhelpline will make the assumption that you will go onto the standard tariff when yours expires.
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

Are you on a tariff that is due to end soon? If so EHL works out what your next years cost is likely to be if you do nothing.
This means it will be more than other sites who assume todays prices even though the tariff may expire next month.
(You can get this other value from EHL too if you want with a couple of clicks)

If that's not the case, give us the data and someone may take a look for you. Lots of people post to suggest the comparison sites are inaccurante, but I can't remember anyone that has proven it (one may have done but the site may have been updated within hours of the post - before I got to review it)
