claim - house insurance

Over the weekend we were having a spring clean (as you do) and we accidently dropped the TV on the floor and now does not work.#
We pay approx £350 per year on house and contents and was wondering if you can claim for dropping a tv.
Its only a sanyo 24" but have never claimed in the last 5 years?

thanks
paul

Check the exact terms and conditions on your policy but in short, yes you almost certainly can. But...

    1. Check your excess. If its more than the value (or even close) to the value of the TV it won't be worth it.

    2. Some insurers will either refuse you insurance again next year or bump up the cost of insurance. Again, it might not be worth it.

    3. Its best if you check the paperwork yourself. Some companies will record you made a query and get funny about it.

  • Firstly you must check to see if you have Accidental Damage cover, if you do then you are covered, there will be an excess usually of around £50 or £100 depending on who you are insured with.

Cover for your 'accidentally' ahem dropped TV will also probably be on a new for old basis, unless you are insured with a complete mickey mouse outfit, so hello new tele!!!!

A number of policies automatically cover Vision equipment for accidental damage- even if you don't have accidental damage extension.

OK its new for old- but with TV's as cheap as they are

is it work the cost of excess and next ( and poss following years) likely higher prices - looks like a close call.

Don't see many 24in around these days- and sanyo is a fair brand

but nice looking 21in available at below £100
    and 28in w/s from about £150
    ( siansburys/ Asda etc)
