Is it for a desktop or laptop? Do you want it portable/USB powered/small form factor or not?

Thanks for these! It's just for a desktop to back up so doesn't need to be portable or anything. Not really sure about the other questions! X

The other questions would be for what you would need if you wanted to carry round a small external drive with a laptop.

I agree especially the Linkstation model.

A portable hard drive would be a simpler option, simply plug it into a usb socket and no external power supply needed.
