Options
Hello , I received a cheque and I went into branch and put it into bank on Tuesday I asked when it would be cleared she told me Friday . Checked online banking and still not available to withdraw :/ think I will be making a trip into town to see them if it's not in as we was going to tale kids to Chester zoo with it tomorrow!

It's a cheque from hm revenue and customs so it's not like they havent got any money in their bank .

Do you think it maybe could clear later today ?

According to their web site it's 4 working days after deposit.

I read that as Wednesday being day 1, Friday being day 3 and Monday being day 4. I'm sure it used to be a day quicker!

Their receipts and online banking also used to confirm the clearing day. I'm not sure if they still do since the sytems changed.

    This link may also help.
  • There was no date on my receipt . I asked the cashier when it would clear and she said Friday . So we will wait an see if it goes in after 9 . If not will be making a trip to the bank as was relying on that and she told me it would be cleared today :/

Yup that's right, you won't get your cash until Monday.

If you pay a cheque in on Friday, it will be available on the 4th working day, the following Thursday.

If you pay a cheque in on Saturday, it will be available on the following Friday as it counts the Monday as the working day it was paid in, then Friday is 4 days after that.

So the best day to pay in a cheque is a Monday because you'll have it for the end of the week. Although if you can't make a Monday a Saturday is just as good as you'll have it the same day as if you paid in on Monday anyway.

No wonder they want to phase out cheques. It takes so long to get the cash!
  • It's quite annoying having to wait for it to clear ,

It's even more annoying that I was told by the cashier Friday and I even double checked and said for definate and she said yes Friday ... She seemed quite confident would be cleared, It is showing on my account balance but not withdraw balance :/ still going to go in and complain about it as doesn't seem fair I was told by cashier one thing and doesn't happen.
  • I had similar recently and called up and was told that the new clearing time for cheques on the Halifax system was 11am

It will clear for withdrawal overnight tonight so you will be able to get it tomorrow at an ATM/branch that's open.

    I don't think it will.

But the world of counters is a long way in my past now!

If it was paid in at Lloyds TSB it would. I'm presuming this is the same at Halifax now they are using ICS.
