  • Also when you lost your job, they didnt blame you in any way did they, as in was it just reduction in jobs etc....Because if any blame can be laid at your door dwp might not pay out jsa straight away. Heres hoping it is not the case and you get help you need promptly. :)

Ah re read and see sacked due to complications, you might need to prove this was not your fault so be prepared for them to consider santioning you, forwarned is best armed :)

Thankyou everyone for your help! I do live with my girlfriend but we aren't married.

    I think as a starting point i'll phone JC+

It doesn't matter that you are not married - you will be treated as a couple for benefits purposes. Does she work?

To get SMI you need to be in receipt of Income based JSA however if she works you may not be entitled to it depending on her income. You can claim Contributions based JSA if you have paid the correct NI but this won't help you with SMI.

Depends on quite a few factors... I have a flexible mortgage... when I lost my job I could have requested a 6 month payment holiday and no doubt got it without query for perfect payment history.

But as above.. you may face complications in getting JSA because of nature of leaving last job... and for means tested benefits your partner can come into play.

I think maybe she's going to have to help you out! You'll likely be treated as a couple. The following link is worth a try.

OK, so she can pay the mortgage then. As a couple, when one is out of work the other is expected to support them.
