Mobile phone water damage????

I purchased a samsung tocco lite mobile from tesco mobile online. It worked fine for 2 weeks then the camera failed? I returned it to tesco (I didnt use it for 2 weeks,it stayed it the box.So i had it for 33 days before i rang the helpline).
They returned it and said it was water damage so wasnt covered by the warranty and they couldn't help. It was never near any water but they say excessive rain can cause this also (was the driest April on record!)
I returned it again asking could they repair at my expense? No they said it was damaged beyond repair!!
My question is... do they not have to provide evidence of this ie..photos? I know it was never near water and they say moisture in the air is a problem!!! If so the phone is not really fit for the purpose if it has no durability!!

Quite a few phones these days have moisture sensitive stickers on the inside, so it's just a case of opening the phone and checking the stickers rather than doing any real checks on the phone, not sure if you model does but if it does this could be why they are telling you it's been in contact with moisture, i have one under my battery and there's probably more inside.0

As above, phones have these pads inside that change colour when exposed to moisture, so the manufacturers basically have a 'get out of jail free card' in many situations.:cool:0
