I can't see why you wouldn't get redundancy if the jobs are with different employers.

Yes, you need to tell the tax office, because it's likely your tax code will change. What tax code do you have on the job you're losing, and what tax code on the other job?

The redundancy payout due on Job 1 will be totally unaffected by the fact that you have Job 2.

What IS likely to be a problem is with getting benefit - because you will still have half a job (ie Job 2). I wouldnt imagine you will be due for any benefit whilst you look for a replacement for the other half of your work.

Just one thing though - help with Council Tax. Assuming this Job 2 is low-paid - then you could go to your local Council and say "My income is now only £x - can you tell me how much my Council Tax will reduce by please?"

Councils do have a sliding scale of lower charge rates based on peoples income and savings level.

OK, in that case, ask your continuing employer for a P46, if they look at you blankly you can download one from the HMRC site.

You'll tick the box which says (roughly) "this is now my only or main job but I've had another one in the current tax year" and get it to your payroll dept. They'll then get a new tax code for that job: I think they have to send off to HMRC so it may take a few weeks. However you will eventually get any tax you've overpaid back!

Is it worth asking your continuing job if there's any more hours there for you?

every now and then the odd bit of overtime comes up , more during the summer cos people are off so i might be lucky - but then i think im luckyier then some to have at least somthing

ive never been unemployed since i left school
so its all new to me

im sure it will sort its self out especially if i get to keep more more now of the earnings from job # 2

    thanks all
