I had one woman who finished I was getting my stuff scanned through and she stayed there texting for the duration of packaging £50 worth of shopping! She was still there when we left!!!

    Anyone else afflicted by this?

I cannot actually ever recall thinking - "!!!!!! - that looked like the speediest queue - and it was by a mile - suckerss!!!!"

It never works out that way for me.

Example earlier. Either side of me at least 3 people in the line with full baskets. I went to the "empty" checkout - The old duffer had about 3 things to scan and pack.

He didn't have any pyhiscal disabilities and wasn't that old - maybe 60!

I clocked a few 6 packs in his shopping that he eventually managed to pack. He still hadn't finished putting his last 3 items in bags and got told the total.

This muppet only went and put his card in the wrong way, not once, but 3 times!! Whilst he was waiting for that to be rectified he didn't have the semi brain to be packing the rest of his shopping.

I was watching these adjacent, initially much large queues, scanning their stuff and waltzing out - they had such smug looks!!

I realise I have only just joined this site so am not intending to alienate people - but aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarahahaggaaaaaaaaaaaa!!

I have no problem with the actual shopping bit - it is just trying to pay for it. Either through a "manned" lane that you would think would be quicker - or through a stupid machine where you still need to call someone over!!

IMO shoppers and the technology has actually made us go backwards and slowed things down.

I have no experiences of SS without it seizing up and saying "unexpected item in the bagging area. Please wait for assistance"!!

I expect it is just me that has had these problems... Oh well...:T

What a horrible attitude you have :( - so you had to wait a few more minutes - big deal!

Not at all - after all this board is called Praise, Vent & warning.

No one forced you to click on the title and read it.

I like the post where the guy said something along the lines of "standard checkout paranoia"

I am glad that I am not the only one that suffers from this condition.

Another gripe is after scanning all your items and you have packed them and want to pay the cashier hasn't totalled it up and is still getting carrier bags out!

i have my own method. You find the fittest checkout girl (or bloke if that's what you're in to) and choose either her till or the one next to it, whichever is shortest. That way no matter how slow your queue is you've got something nice to look at.

That is a good idea and I think I may go for that attitude. My example yesterday was a complete beast. I am surprised they even managed to squeeze in the kiosk. So slow.

The thing is I usually do my shopping at Aldi or Lidl and there is no fcking about there. They are really quick - sometimes too quick.

    But Asda and Tesco.. strewth!!

everybody should adopt my tactics; that means i can quickly run through the hippocrocapig's checkout as nobody will be using hers.

They also stand at the bus stop complaining that it's later blah blah blah, and then when it does turn up they complain to the driver that he's late... Then they'll actually start scratting about at the bottom of their bag to find their money.
And scratting around by people at previous stops is what has made the damned bus late in the first place... It's why I have a pass.

Occasionally, we get an elderly woman catching the bus with a younger friend (could be her daughter), but she's got a bag full of coins to buy their tickets, and she takes a long time to count the money into the ticket machine.

Wouldn't it be quicker for her friend/daughter to help her count out the money into bags in more manageable amounts to speed things up as the bus always runs late when she catches it, and this is the first bus of the day into the city centre.

Or they complain to the driver that he's late and it's actually their watch that's wrong!

I also used to be plagued by choosing the slowest queue, but now just use the self service check-out, even if I have a big trolley full!

At least with self service, even if it does take longer over-all, at least you're not standing in a queue waiting, and have plenty of time to make sure all the offers go through, rather than having to scrutinise the receipt afterwards!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
