HMO query

Hiya,
Just a quick question, we're waiting on something to do with the house we're buying being flagged up as an HMO.
I'm not really sure of what is going on the but our solicitors are saying that they are checking to see if it has ever been issued an HMO license and if it has this can affect our mortgage. It has never had any planning permission to be an HMO apparently either.
Thing is, it's a family home and has been for 20 odd years minimum. It's never been rented out and, in my experience, it doesn't even fit the requirements for what is deemed as an HMO (three floors, seperate facilities etc), also doesn't an HMO license automatically cease to be valid when the house is sold?
The vendors and the vendors solicitor have replied with as much but I don't see why the whole thing is being dragged out by this.
Any ideas?

Might be worth giving your local council a ring and asking what the local requirements are for an HMO. Maybe someone made a typo on the house number when checking ?0
