This is basically a canvasser knocking on doors to get leads or a rep self generating his own sales. (I've worked for these people when I was going through uni about 10 years back - Yes I went through uni at 40 lol). The canvasser/rep is on commision only and its his job to get people to change their windows etc.
Zenith staybright as they were known have been bust many many times like most of the national companies.
If your parents want to replace the windows then get a few quotes, people on here would be happy to recommend some companies who have provided good products and work at a good price, just take a look at a few other posts to get a general idea.

How long ago is "recently" in relation to "starting Monday"? Did the Staybright man give your parents the correct paperwork to comply with the doorstep selling regs including a "right to cancel"?

About 2-3 weeks ago and I dont know as my dad dealt with it and he is very private when it comes to money :(

The only way that he could tell that they had failed, would be if there was clearly condensation between the layers of glass. So if this is what he was talking about, then I presume he was talking about changing the glass units only.
If the units have failed it means the seals have let air into the gap between the two panes of glass . This will show as misting or staining seen when looking through the window which is neither on the inside or outside of the glass. If this is not visible the units have not failed.

Thanks as I have been trying to work out what the definition of "failure" was :). They want to replace the lot including the front and back doors and the windows are perfectly fine could just do with a rub with a dampcloth.

I have found out a little bit more about whats going on. Apparently Staybrite held our details on record from when they did the first installation years ago and they came knocking this time round wanting to replace the windows so they could take photos to show the before and after and when my parents said yes and they took the photos for the before shots they then said the windows had failed.

Also they said that the current windows are obselete and these new windows are the latest design, whatever that means .

The problem is I have done research and I believe this is a con but when I explained it to my dad that he is being done over he just ignored it and said they are coming Monday and thats that :(.

Usually my dad is a very senseible man but he seems to have dug his heels in so if any body can think of a way to get him to change his mind please say :).

All the units have failed including the doors, absolute bo11ocks, your dad is being taken for a ride, why not take your laptop round and show him what us clever people have said.
I gave a mate a hand to do a three bedroom property a couple of years ago - £2.5k for 12 units.
Doubt that prices have gone up much.

So the windows that they originally supplied and fitted have failed (ask them to inspect the original work) so they come around and tell your parents that the windows we installed years ago are !!!!!! and we can offer you an upgrade, for a price of course to our new design of window which will fail and be !!!!!! in 10 years time...........

Tell your parents to rip out the windows and put back the sash windows as they will last for 80 years..........

I am sorry to say that it looks like your parents are having new windows installed. They are out of the cancellation period so my only advice would be to just wait and see if they do a good job and if so I hope they enjoy their new windows.

  • Just a quick update to say the windows were installed and while they seem to have done a good job I am still not happy but its done now so will just have to live with it :(.

On the other hand if they fall out/go wrong Staybrite will be sorry .

Considering they were supposed to have started on the 27th June then it looks like they've taken an awfully long time to do it. Where are the publicity pics then?
