    OK. I suspect it is the motherboard rather than parts as putting the same part in different slots results in a different effect. I've got a spare hard drive, since some time ago I thought the problems were drive related, but that seems to be performing well in another PC.

    Is there an easy (free) way of mirroring everything from one drive onto another?

    Hmm... Now we get intermittent losses of network connection. Is this the first sign of further hardware failure, or something else?
