Toyota Yaris - Should i consider

Thank God for this site - I have definitely swung away from the Yaris. I dont think i have the strength and time to be dealing with car drama and issues. Hence the reason i want to buy right in the first place.
My order of preference so far
vw auto polo
ford fiesta auto
vauxhall corsa auto
honda jazz ( but i suspect it is same MMT as Yaris - i might be wrong)
does anybody know the mpg for the above cars
what do you guys thinks - Please keep it coming
Yes, be careful with the Jazz. Honda in their "wisdom" fitted a MMT type box for a while, have now seen sense, probably after lots of customer complaints and reverted back to the CVT box.
The Jazz I'm driving is a July 2007 car, before the "MMT". I'm not sure when the CVT was re-introduced. If you do choose a Jazz then make sure you ask the questions. It should be fairly obvious which box is fitted. The CVT has a conventional "automatic" transmission selector. P, D, N, R etc. It also has a manual mode with "flappy paddles" on the steering column and a manual selector on the steering wheel.:) The MMT will have an E or A plus M and a +/- in the M mode selection.
The Yaris interior is cobbled together using cheap and nasty plastics too and rattles like a sack of spanners. The dealer had mine for two days to eliminate some rattles but they just start up again elsewhere.
The Polo might have VW's DSG, Direct Shift Gearbox (MMT type) which is far superior to Toyota's MMT. I've driven one and the gear changes are pretty seamless, I believe it has a different clutch arrangement (2 of them?), someone else will probably know exactly. Like the MMT they can be very expensive to fix if something goes wrong.0 -
Can you guys recommend any auto hatchback that will give atleast 50mpg - less than 3 years old - Max budget 5k with low car taxI owe £3233 @ 0%0

There is an automatic 107, will do an easy 50mpg. Whilst the manuals are fun for the power output rather you than me for an auto one.
Why the obsession with mpg? Spend 2 to 3k on a nicer car and use te difference for fuel?0 -

Not inside its not, its a right tardis0 -
we have a yaris auto diesel, and I love it. Used to have an avensis, this is a doddle to drive. It's not the smoothest gear change in the wolrd though, but you get used to it0

We've got a manual petrol Yaris, bought brand new on a 59 plate. Before that we had a Y-plate Yaris, we got 2200 trade-in on it at 10 years old and 100k miles on the clock. OH drives it ,says it handles fine, dont know about the auto though. One thing I would say is they're b.loody sturdy, we were in a high-speed shunt on the motorway and the other car was a write off but ours just needed a new bumper and numberplate.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200

I have an 02 Yaris Verso " TARDIS ".Its done 50000 cost me £1600 1 year ago and dose around 55mpg on the motorway.
Back seats fold down under the floor leaving a flat load space and the back door opens wide enough to load a small pallet, loads of head room , grab handles and fitted roof bars .
Best small vehicle I have ever bought. I intend running it to well over 100,000 miles or until no longer economical to repair. Cost so far 1 rear shocker which I fitted myself .

I have a VW Scirocco and chose the manual gearbox over the DSG for that very reason. There are known instances of the DSG box failing on VW Golfs (not many but then you don't want to be the one do you) and repair bills hitting thousands. Very good system though and if you only keep forthe warranty period you should be fine.0 -
Based on the information i have received so far - What about Vauxhall Corsa Automatic ( not the easytronic but the conventional automatic) maybe 08 upwardsI owe £3233 @ 0%0

Hi Blacksta - did you go for the Yaris in the end? What was your final opinion? I have been umming and ahhing about the YARIS for the best part of the last year. I didnt like the old model with the centre dashboard console so waited for the New Yaris which came out a few weeks ago where they have a normal dashboard. I test drove the manual - found the gear change really sluggish - then drove the auto - was also sluggish unless I kept it in Sport mode the whole time - this kinda defeats the object of the energy savings in my opinion. Would be interested to know if you didn't go for the Yaris what you went for instead?
Thanks0
