Sage instant 2000 ver 10,02,0022

Options
Was using this on an old computer which has now died, copies on another laptop and desktop at home. I want to install on new laptop, win 7, installs ok but when you get to finish the restore all I get is a logon page. As the install does not ask for a logon name and password this is a problem. I have tried the one they suggested in help(manager/no password) but no joy. Tried reinstalling sage but no better, tried a backup with "all files", various combinations of company name and passwords with different case etc. No luck. Is it, do you think, that this version of sage is incompatible with Win7? Not worth updating to the latest version as I am due to retire soon and the business will cease. If its the win 7 thats the problem I'll just have to use the machines at home with XP, pity really as the accounts is the main reason for getting the laptop.
Hope someone can help.
Peter

The first point of call is usually the "queue.dta" file!!

Make sure sage is shutdown and check the "ACCDATA" folder
You should see a file called "queue.dta"
    Rename it to "queue.old"
    Restart Sage

Sage uses "queue.dta" to store who's logged in, if you delete it it basically logs out everyone, then you should be given the option to login. (it's a pain in the back side to anyone who's ever supported sage! it gets damaged at the drop of a hat!)

It may also be worth trying in compatibility mode - right click the icon and select properties, then compatibility, and maybe try for XP.
The other thing with Sage is that if your original version had any updates applied, then you will need to apply them to the new install before it will work with your data.

Done thanks but Problem is, I was never given the option to have a login and the "manager/no password" will not work. It still says invalid password, a blank box does not work. Thanks for the info .

Email from Sage, Forget it it won't work in Win 7, too old, best get an update. No thanks, I'll put it on another XP computer. Pity, I'll have to have the new computer home instead.

Don't throw the towel in yet! ^_^

    take a look at this:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/

Basically it runs a version of XP within Win7 letting you run old software. This might work for your sage program!

If it does not work theirs another method of getting XP running within Win7, but you'd need an XP install disk.

I did'nt give up, it seems the disc version (does not say number on disc though) was too old. When I tried the updated disc its all fine. Now have 3 copies on the go so if one comp packs up I'm fine. Thanks for the assist all.
Just to make it clear version 10 does work on Win 7.
