I also can endorse Epsons with compatible cartridges.

    Sillygoose's comments are spot on.

I've got an Epson 1290 which was a top-of-the-range A3 printer from about 10 years ago. It has worked hard and still gives impeccable results. It's only had a few original Epson cartridges in it but dozens of compatibles.

I've only had one set of compatibles that were duds - from Cartridge World - and that was because the casing had an error in the moulding so could not be inserted into this particular model.

About three months ago, I bought 10 black cartridges and 10 coloured from 7dayshop for £20 which have been excellent and will probably last me for a couple of years - or until the machine drops to bits or I do!

If you already have an Epson printer, have a look at this page and the rest of the website - it's got loads of information on it about maintenance of printers, Epson especially, including how to avoid and deal with the dreaded blocked heads problems:

I'd recommend Brother printers like this one. I have a Brother and it's been faultless. I use compatible ink cartridges which cost around £4 each but the black has 29ml of ink and the other colours have 20ml. That takes some beating for running costs!

Please can i ask you where do you buy your ink for this printer from thanks

Sure, I buy them from a shop called ToneZone Consumables which is local to me, but they also do mail order.

i have a kodak printer and i like it a lot if i didnt have this one i would go for a brother one both of them are good for ink:j
  • Had nothing but trouble and cost with hp printers. We only occasionally print (upto 3 weeks in between) and always had problems with hp print heads, 25 pounds each time to sort with a new cartridge!

got an epsom sx115 30 quid, one pound refills and no more problems afetr cleaning the print head option is used...
