holiday in greece

does anyone have a view re travel to Greece.
We are going in August and I am concerned that they may drop out of the Euro and we may lose our deposite etc. Will flights still go ahead if they cannot pay for fuel???

Will Euro still be accepted or will we need the old currency

cheers

I'm no expert, but I think that even if Greece left the euro zone, it wouldn't be happening in a matter of weeks. And I don't think they would expect anyone to be paying in Drachma...

I imagine you would be covered by your airline if the flight was cancelled.

I'm going next week and I'm more concerned about the possibility of strikes affecting the flight

This might help...(although it is slightly tongue in cheek)

Greece will not drop out of the euro in the short term and even if they did there wouldn't be a sudden switch to another currency.
It takes a long time for currency changes - the logistics are enormous from printing and minting cash to changing over euro-based machinery such as parking meters, railway ticket machines etc etc.

Of course long term ( and possibly even medium term ) the entire euro project is doomed.

Spanish banks are concealing eye-wateringly massive debts ( what do you think paid for all those millions of empty properties) and once Spain falls, which it will, the whole house of cards comes crashing down.

It may even happen before then when Sarkozy and Merkel get kicked out of office.
