Anglian Home - window obstructed by pipe

I just had my front windows and porch replaced by Anglian Home, it all went well and I was happy with the work, but now I realised that one of the windows in the porch doesn’t open. When the Anglian Home sales person came he put the window openings on the left and right side panels of the porch.

Now when we open the right window it doesn’t open more then a couple of inches as its being obstructed by the drainage down pipe from gutter which my self and the neighbour share.

Anglian Home never raised this issue when they designed or carried out a survey of the property therefore am within my rights to request them to remedy the situation as I have effectively paid for a window which can never be opened!

Did you sign off the left and right openings before work commenced?

One day some company will do what they say they will do and charge a fair charge.:T

Not doing the opposite of that which they promise and charge you a fortune for the privileged. :(

    Or maybe not:mad:

So you asked them put an opening window in a place where it couldn't be fully opened due to the presence of the guttering downpipe???

I thought this was merely an issue about which way the window opened (and hence could easily be remedied by refitting). On second reading I'm not so sure... it sounds like you've just slapped a window where there are pipes outside!

Can you supply more detail? Pics?

Why is everyone acusing the OP of this? - one would assume that Anglian Home did a survey and should have spotted this before they went ahead and did the work.

Even then - surely the person who installed the window should have realised there was an issue.

I don't think it is fair on the OP to expect them to spot this potential problem unless they had detailed plans from Anglian Homes and understood the details. One would assume that Anglian Homes know what they are doing.

OP - can the down pipe be moved over a bit so that the window opens? (Obviously at Anglian Homes expense) - or can the window be changed to a fixed one ?

I thought the whole point of a company such as Anglian Homes designing and installing to make it all easier - otherwise I would have just gone to Wickes.

Anglian did a survey and prior to that the designer suggested we move the windows and planed accordingly. The window cant be moved but the pipe from the gutter maybe moved. Im going to write to them and see what they say. Prior to this they appointed a senior manager due I raised concerns I raised after bad press about the company.

I doubt there is anything realistically that can be done, If the pipe cannot be moved (which will be at a cost to yourselves) then it would involve remaking the windows and reinstalling which I can guarantee they will not do. To them there is no problem. The bottom line is that you have had what you signed for, Although they have advised you wrong it falls upon the homeowner to check what they are signing for. I am not saying anglian are right and I would never stick up for such a useless company, the only outcome I would expect from this would be them offering you a discount off further products.
