Someone posted here that FD are going to use a secure key too
Halifax has username, password and then select random characters from a secret passphrase atm0 -
Lloyds TSB no secure key and their cards cannot be read in other banks card readers so doubt they will be introducing that anytime soon0

HSBC's system (SecureKey) doesn't involve a card reader. So Lloyds TSB can just do the same or similar.
The way of the future is extra security, all the banks will have it eventually, it's silly to think otherwise.0 -

IIRC the official line is that FD will be introducing SOMETHING SIMILAR within the next year but not necessarily identical to what has been issued to HSBC customers.0 -

My Lloyds TSB debit card works in a card reader - the reader can tell if I have correctly entered the PIN number and generates a 8 digit code.
As such, I suspect LLoyds could introduce a card reader with little trouble if they wanted too..

LloydsTSB have got the right idea. If you're setting up a new payment, they do the pin confirmation via the telephone and then in future you can make payments using your password. Contrast this with Nationwide, who even with established payment arrangements require use of a card reader.
I moved to First Direct for this reason, so I'm dismayed to hear that they're thinking of doing the same. Hope they come up something that doesn't require an additional piece of hardware - your mobile phone perhaps?0 -

I've tried mine in a barclays, nationwide and natwest card reader and it says the card is unrecognised.0 -

boxrick - I have the same phone as you, I'm with Barclays and they do have a dedicated mobile banking site. I have the PINSentry but OH doesnt and he can log in and check balances etc without it - think they've updated now or something so you can actually do stuff without PINSentry.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200
