British Gas!

Had some pompous !!!!!! round today to give me a quote for a full central heating system. Took time of work for it and he was meant to be here between 10-12. He showed up just after 1, so that was the first fault. I asked for a morning appointment so I could go to work in the afternoon, and there is less chance of them "running late" in the morning, or so I thought. This meant I could have taken the afternoon off instead.

So he sits down and asks what needs doing. I tell him I want a new heating system, combi, 5 rads, TRVs, programmable room stat and all the plumbing. Told him Im getting a new kitchen and the kitchen will be totally rewired (by me) and there will be an electrical point for the combi. He didnt even look in the kitchen or upstairs or anywhere at all for that matter and said, well it will be 3 grand minimum. Erm !!!!!!? This is for a 1 bedroom flat, and how does he know that without even looking?

"It's my job, it's what I do". Great a psychic quotation dude, why do you need to come to my house then, couldnt you just tell me over the phone? He took offence at this, and started banging on about how the £1500 boiler he "will" be fitting will last 20 years at least and that it will include £300 worth of electrical work. He hasnt even asked me where I want the boiler to go yet still at this point apart from 'in the kitchen'.

I dont plan to live here more than 3 years so a magic boiler that you claim will last 20 years means nothing to me, and I dont really fancy gold plated radiators, they will clash with the chrome already in the room, so cheaper white ones will do, and the £300 electrical work? This would be a bit of 3 core flex to the fused spur I would provide 2 feet away. Apparently there are regulations that will stop me doing this. No, the regulations say I CAN do it, as long as a fully qualified electrician checks and connects the supply. Short story is he was ejected after 5 minutes on the grounds of taking the P, plucking figures out of the air. A plumber I know quoted £1600 for the work and that is with a £650 Vaillant boiler and INCLUDES the £350 charge for Transco to lay the gas pipes. The only problem is he is super busy so cant do it in a hurry.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Oh I know how you feel! I am fuming right now about British Gas. We needed a new boiler last year and felt that going to British Gas would be the best place (how wrong could we be:() The fitters, although corgi registered were not with British Gas but contracted for the job, had never fitted a condensing/combi boiler which the British Gas Rep had convinced us we should have!

They made a terrible mess of it, although reasonably safe it looked terrible with so many ugly pipes on show and made a terrible noise. We have since had our kitchen re-done and got a corgi registered fitter in that was recommended to us and he took 3 days to undo their bad handiwork and relocate our boiler to the airing cupboard. It now practically purrs and no ugly piping on show.

After this we decided to end our home care agreement with them and phoned to tell them to cancel this and the insurance we had with them to cover various appliances that we now no longer have.

Today we have received a request from them to pay £315.00 for the homecare and appliance care agreement! Arggggg!!!!! Have just phoned again and they have assured me that it has now been cancelled and we should hear confimation of this in 5 days! I won't hold my breath!

Sorry but just had to get this off my chest! Feel a bit better now :)
Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.
