Is it possible to ring a UK mobile which is situated abroad from a landline going through one of those companies which offers cheap tariffs for overseas calls?
I'm going to Greece next week and I shall be taking my mobile with me and we are looking for a cheapish way for my husband to keep in touch with me from our landline.
Thanks in advance for any help

The cost to call your mobile from a landline when its abroad is the same charge as calling it in the uk.
You will pay to receive the call on your mobile so its going to cost you more on your mobile bill not on the landline.0 -
Ah OK, thanks

I was planning to sign up for a one month package with my mobile provider to cover this so that's all I'll need to do then? There's no additional charge at the other end? Thanks to everyone who posts comps, I love winning prizes big and small

The person calling your mobile pays the same rate to call your mobile no matter where in the world it is outside the uk , it is you that will get charged on your mobile bill to take the incoming call. Interesting you say you can get a plan from your mobile company to cover this? not heard of any mobile company that provides this feature. would be a good money saver if its available. let us know how you get on with your mobile company.0

It was o2's My Europe Extra I was looking at. They do charge £10.21 but then I can receive calls for free (if my understanding of the T&Cs is correct). I won't be dialing out you see, just receiving calls from my landline. Thanks to everyone who posts comps, I love winning prizes big and small

Yes your recieve the calls from the UK Free but your still be charged to call your mobile from the landline of course.:D
If your landline supplier allows indirect access cheap way to call a mobile wherever its situated from uk landline is www.18185.co.uk0 -
Probably too late for this trip, but another option is buy a global sim card which will cost about £15, has a normal UK mobile number but can receive calls in Greece completely free of charge. Same principle as MyEuropeExtra, only cost is on the landline bill of calling a UK mobile from the landline but the sim card will last for a year with no monthly fees, not cost £10.21 a month. (a £8.50+VAT fee applies after 12 months to keep it active). Depends if you're planning on traveling again.0

The cost of calling a UK mobile anywhere in the world including the UK is the same, but from tomorrow 1-7-11 it will cost 10p a minute to receive a call on your UK mobile within the EEC.A fool and their money are easily parted.0
