Laid Off / Redundancy Advice

April 5th best thing happened to me that I got laid off from work. I then have claimed no JSA, and in fact signed up to do a HND course starting this Sep or October. Very excited, and financial I am fine.
However, I want to make sure that I am aware of full facts regarding situation of laid off and redundancy.
This is general facts:
I am not being paid whilst laid off. I was laid off pretty much because of declining business levels. A few others have been laid off too. It is a small LTD company. I received a letter stating that I am being laid off due to low work levels.
I received guarantee pay of around 2 or so days wages when I was laid off according to my pay slip in April.
I have been on £6.50 for two years, but the employment contract has me down at £5.05 when I first joined them in August, 2006.
I know the company is looking at making redundancies.
I was laid off on Tuesday April 5th.
I have been there since late August, 2006. I am 27 years old.
I worked around 40 hours a week.
I am pretty certain that I, and others, will be getting redundant.
Basically I would like to know the time scale for when they have to contact me and inform me of this given the fact that I have been laid of since April?
Regardless of what a contract says or not, I am entitled to statutory redundancy pay.
Do I have to ask the company for redundancy pay?
Many thanks.

You have to ask for redundancy. See here http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/Understandingyourworkstatus/Temporarylayoff/DG_100266930
