Thanks Tesco, for your total non-help!!

Bit of a rant here, but hey ho. Some may agree, most probably wont, but on we go with it...

Some months ago, i enquired as to when my 0% on purchases should run out on my Tesco card. Call Tesco for an answer was the reply.

Fair enough.

So i call Tesco for an answer & they say June. Go back and get a proper answer was the reply.

So i go and get myself a proper answer (of sorts) ... end of June. Couldn't give me a specific date, just "end of June".

Ok if you want to play that game i thought, i'm not to a few days interest, i'll just pay it all off mid-June & be done with. Stoozing on the Tesco card over with.

The card was taken out July 2010 & i thought it was 12month on 0% purchases. Then i had doubts that perhaps it was 13 months, i couldn't remember, but was satisfied with the fact that Tesco had reliably advised me that the 0% ended at the "end of June 2011".

Get notice through today (after i'd paid the card off at the weekend) ... 0% on purchases ends 18th August 2011.

Yes, thank you for your advice Tesco.

At least when i asked the AA, they gave me a specific date first time of asking.

Best time to ask this question is when you call to activate the card. In my experience I've always had an accurate answer...and that includes Tesco.

Write the answer down on the front of the card agreement/T&Cs.

The only credit card company I have ever seriously fallen out with is Tesco it was a few years ago but they were beyond useless and everytime they tried to put things right they made it even worse....I can laugh now but at the time it was awful. In the end they paid my rather a lot of compensation for my pain so alls well that ends well...wouldn't trust a grocer with my finances again because Sainsbury's also cocked up my bank account with them.

Yeah, i perhaps should've done it at that point. I didn't think at the time to be honest. I called up a few months in. 2 or 3 at a guess.
Even still, they should've been able to provide an accurate answer. My details should be on the screen they're looking at & they just read it off to me, simple (in theory).

I did the exact same with AA. In fact with them, i got in touch even further in to things (maybe 5-6 months) & no bother at all they gave me an exact date which i've made note of.

Ok, we're not talking megamoney being lost here, but it's not the point to me. They were wishy-washy with the first answer, mildly better on their second answer, and outright wrong on both.

I know what you mean - in that i can laugh about this incident, because it's so 'wrong'.

Don't get me wrong, i have no doubt that Tesco has many thousands of happy credit card owners & i've been happy until i saw this today.

I'll even shoulder some blame - i should've persisted in getting a specific date. I just took that they couldn't be interested in providing me info so 'gave up' in a way. Still doesn't make totally wrong information right though.

The duration should have been fairly fresh in your mind then? What about the credit agreement/T&Cs?...weren't they close to hand? Wasn't the intro period shown in the summary box?

My memory is awful, it's why i write a lot of things down, especially banking details.

    Thanks for the link.

I applied for a 13 month 0% Te$co CC on 13th January 2011 and used it for the first time on 9th February. Last month I phoned Te$co to find out my end date and they said 23rd March  which cannot be right. I scanned over my paperwork and did not see a reference to the start of the 13 months being delayed. I think I'll pay off the balance in January to make sure I don't pay any interest.

With mine, the exact day my 0% was due to run out was shown on my statement online/offline 2 months before it was due to finish.

This was about 18 months ago now.

It was shown on the first page under important information and not where many expect it, on the back where it shows the APR's.

I think you are wise to clear it in January. I always make sure the balance is cleared at least a month beforehand on 0% deals, to avoid any charges for certain.
