Fencing

We have had a quote from a neighbour for a new fence between our properies.

We get on fine, but she is having issues with the neighbours on the other side of her and has finally got them to agree to pay half th costs, as they keep arguing about who owns the fence - ridiculous as they own the freehold together!

Therefore she is keen to try and get it all moving!

We think the quote is a little high, the work is:-

There is a 1 foot drop between our gardens, an existing crappy fence and some unused and old concrete fence posts.

The length is about 17m and the quote is about £1700 to remove old fence and posts and erect 1.8m trellis topped panels, with concrete based wooden posts, adb currently no ravel board.

We are going to get a couple more quotes as this seems alot, even if they are paying list price for the panels!

Does anyone have any idea if this is good or not? For neighbourly relations we may end up spending that, as it is worth it for a good neighbour, but want the best option for the money!

You don't have to pay a penny - just say times are hard and you'd rather not have this expense at this time, save the pennies

there is a bloke on ebay who does these fences (and removes old one) for £60 a panel, all fitted and finished for that. he doesnt do the trellis on top but thats easy to do anyway or even if he did he wouldnt be charging as much as you have been quoted im sure!

  • We do want a new fence, just seemed a huge quote! She is also happy to wait until later for o part of the fence, as it isn't as bad as the other side!
