Hi. I am currently with AOL and have been for 8 years. It is unlimited and I pay £12.99 pm. BT is offering me 10GB a month for £5 for the next 18 mnths (Going up to £14.50 after, but then I can change). I am worried this won't be enough though. I have a computer, lap top and x box and a 15 year old son! Lol

I often downlad books, flims and watch tv on line and my son watches you tube, films and plays xbox live. We are both hooked on FB as well and I play games on there. The broad band monitors only seem to do the PC.

Worried about moving to less allowance but I have been made reduandant twice in the past 12 mnths and I am a loan parent.

All a bit tough, need help deciding! PLEASE advise! :o

15 yr old lad + Xbox = Unlimited.

Based on the usage you've described I suspect a 10GB cap will be used up inside a week.

    plug your details into here:-

    http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search

look at the exchange details page (click on the exchange when the search is complete) and see what services, especially LLU, is available to you. Post the results back here for further advice - you may be able to get a better total package :)

I assume you're still paying BT for line rental and probably calls ??

  • Computer and Laptop on their own will kill a 10Gb cap in a few weeks just from updates and the like. Xbox live brings down updates as well which are often required to let you play the game any further so the likelihood of hitting your cap is good.

We're with TalkTalk on a 40GB cap for <£20 inc. line rental. I wouldn't recommend them though since they're sneaky about finding elaborate ways to renew your contract constantly and severely penalise for cancelling. So for the time being we're sort of stuck with them.

    Best of luck though

can you log onto AOL and see your current usage?
  • Yea, I pay £11 a month for BT line rental as well.

This is a good idea, it might also be worth finding out what actually happens when you hit that limit with BT, do they throttle your bandwidth or charge?
  • Haha, tried getting on tp AOL to 'manage my account' and internet explorer can not disply this page. I do seem to remember when they tried to change me to a new package of 10GB they said I used 9GB and assured me that 10GB would be enough, and they wanted me to pay MORE for that than my unlimited as would get better connection with a new hub. If I am using that much though it would be a very close thing wouldn't it?

just copy and paste the text into your post :) LLU means the provider takes over your phone line from BT, and e.g. my TT package is line rental, all phonecalls and unlimited download broadband for around £28 a month...and if you're that close to the exchange you could get up to 18-20 Meg speeds ;) )D

Going over the limit with BT can prove expensive - Where did you find this offer?
