Unwanted marketing phone calls.

Hello everyone,
Ive just received a phone call from a company in Leeds,(withheld number) she wouldnt give the company name, but told me they were doing surveys for pain relief machines for conditions such as arthritis and would be "in my area demonstrating them". I asked how she got both my name and phone number and she said i was on a "national database" and my details could be accessed via this. To my knowledge im not on ANY public data base, i am ex directory and not on the published electoral roll. I would like to ask if anyone else has had this type of phone call and if there IS such a data base.
Any help you are able to give would be very much appreciated. many thanks
