Could you please advise. I have read the relevant posts on MSE but am not sure how to proceed.
Many thanks!
Mission objective: Halifax Clarity (for oversees spending & online protection & credit building & 5£ cashback)
Acceptable intermediate objective: Credit card (to improve credit rating & online protection)
The “good”:
The Bad:
The Ugly:
Other history:
First had £1800 overdraft limit, but later reduced to £250 so that Available credit would not be a problem (not used at any time)
Checked credit reports, seems OK apart from the "problem" with the address variations
Many thanks!
Mission objective: Halifax Clarity (for oversees spending & online protection & credit building & 5£ cashback)
Acceptable intermediate objective: Credit card (to improve credit rating & online protection)
The “good”:
- no bad credit history (defaults, missed payments...), financial associations...
- lloyds current account for ~4years
- halifax current acc. for over half a year
- 2x mobile contract: 1 for 2 months, 1 a bit less than 2 years
- PhD student, on a ~£19k bursary
- listed on electoral roll
The Bad:
- no other credit history
The Ugly:
- variation in official address: for electoral roll it is 75-79, for royal post 77 (numbers changed, but representative of the actual state), street name and post code being the same. (ALL variations showing up: 77, 75-79, 75/79) Not sure what to do about this; talked to the landlord, but it will take ages before it is sorted out. Would a notice of correction on the credit reports be an option?
- applied for halifax clarity about 4 months ago, declined
- applied for capital one about 3 months ago, declined
Other history:
First had £1800 overdraft limit, but later reduced to £250 so that Available credit would not be a problem (not used at any time)
Checked credit reports, seems OK apart from the "problem" with the address variations

I would suggest using the same address as your current account when applying for credit cards. It might also be a good idea to get an experian credit report.Nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. - Alex Supertramp0
