Hi All
My first post, so please be kind
I bought a suite from Bhs last August [should have been last May but they never had it all in stock] it is a 3 seater, 2 seater and chair, reclining suite in leather.
To cut a long story short, the one seat that doesn't recline is broken. If you sit on it, it makes a click as if something has 'given' underneath.
Tried to look at it, but it is all sealed in. So I telephoned BHS and told them of the problem. " No problem, you should hear from a technician within 3 days about a repair"
THe next day I get a telephone call saying I can choose another suite or have a refund. I asked for the same suite to be replaced [ I was happy with just the settee actually] and they told me they couldn't as that supplier does not provide that suite anymore.
I told them I would have to look at their stock then and ring back. Feeling very miffed I look on site- there is only 1 other reclining suite and its a lot more expensive.
When I bought the present suite it was the only one I could find in the exact colour and style- it ticked all the boxes.
At the time I ended up buyin it, it was on offer in a sale, and had a 10% offer off THAT price also, I thought I was so lucky, until now.
Anyway, I can't find one anywhere at the same price, and to be honest I would like to keep the one I have.
Sooooooooo I telephoned BHS and told them of my plight and suggested they give me the money to get it repaired myself. They can only sanction £100.00 and then the guarantee would be void so she doesn't recommend it.
I asked them to just exchange it at no cost to me and I would put up with another suite- nope if I want to exchange then I have to pay £1700 extra.
I left it that I would have to put up with it until they had something in stock at a manageable cost.
I feel really annoyed about this. It isn't my fault they no longer deal with that supplier. It isn't my fault the suite has borken, and I cannot afford virtually another suite cost after only buying this one in August
I seem to be stuck between a rock and a hard place and would love some help on this
Many Thanks, in advance
Sue

I'm not sure what else they can offer that you will be happy with, bhs are not even disputing the chair being faulty and it sounds like it could be 50/50 wether or not the damage is a fault or misuse, someone sitting down too heavily could cause the fault you describe.
You're not going to get them to swap for a suite nearly double the price for free, even if you would be doing them a favor by putting up with it. You have been offered a fair resolution, the only other options since you are only interested in the particular suite that you have already purchased is to get a quote for it being repaired or take the refund amd look elsewhere.
It's worth bearing in mind also it's not bhs's fault the suite has broken either, i don't think they plan for these things to happen.0 -
It's just one of those things, I'm afraid. Take a replacement or the refund; at least they're not quibbling about this. It's not really a consumer rights issue any more (as these have been adequately met), rather it's a 'I can't find another suite as nice as my broken one' and with that, unfortunately, no one can help."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0
