AMEX product red card discontinued?

Hello,

Recently was reminded of the AMEX product red card that donates 1% or so to help fights aids in africa.

Its still being advertised on the product red website and still accessible on the Amex site but you are unable to apply for it.

While I currently use an Amex platinum cashback card (which probably would allow me to donate more towards such causes than the Red card) I would like to know whether Amex have axed the product red card completely, if anyone knows.

I have the amex red card, dont use it as much as I did

there was a time that they had Red Rewards, I remember we got a travel bag, a set of "cow" organic smellies, a product red ipod nano and a few other things.

Currently use my egg card and get 1% cashback, the theory was I could then donate that to charity but I would be lying if I said I did that, when egg gets consumed by barclays and they get rid of cashback I plan to spend £300 a month on halifax clarity to get a £5 cashback and then stick everything else on the Amex red card

The actual apply link is dead I think. Redirects to a page saying the application is unavailable.

you are right, the application page is not working,
also not listed on the "all cards" page @ http://www.americanexpress.com/uk/all-cards/
why not give them a call and see American Express RED: 0845 600 3216

called up - no longer accepting new applications, they were unable to tell me why. seems a shame this has happened.

agreed, mine is still working and no letter to say will be changed to another card. I guess this must cost them quite a bit, in fairness I have never paid a penny in interest but the charity has had over £500 from my use of the card
