BBC 2 television programme, The Daily Politics, is looking to speak to a Naval Service family member about life in the Service community and the current challenges for families caused by budget cuts, redundancies and a high operational tempo. They are looking to film over the next few days and will travel to the family. If you are interested in taking part please email Helen Gray at: helen.gray@bbc.co.uk or call: 020 7973 6126. Personnel are reminded of the MOD guidelines on talking to the press. Details can be found on the Defence Intranet.

Since when has the Naval op tempo increased? Their boats barely leave harbour nowadays because its too expensive :p Oh, and can't they stay in the same MQ for basically their whole career unlike any in their sister services? Hardly a hardship in comparison to the squadies who get dumped anywhere and everywhere as new families, in poor accommodation with very few, if any, friends whilst their partners effectively deploy for 9 months.
Now, if you were after booties or squaddies or even crabs in what's left of the Air force, then they may have a point.

• Bit harsh davilown.

There are downsides to each of the Services for moving around, sailors being away for six months at a time isn't much fun for the families left at home. I don't know any that have been in the same MQ, or the same broad location, for whole careers, but then I've moved a lot until now, when we've put down roots.

life as the family of someone in the services will always bring pressures that civvys just dont have, no matter which service it is. And its not a who-has-it-hardest competition.

• Good afternoon davilown,

As pointed out by ‘Trying to be good’ and ‘helsee’; each Service has their own issues and concerns. Although some policy is dealt with in a tri-Service manner, each Service has unique challenges for personnel and families and single Service policies to address these matters. If you have an issue or concern you would like to raise about Service life may I suggest you contact your relevant Service Families Federation. Many thanks for your feedback.

Kind regards,
NFF Team
