I think it really depends on the sector you work on if this sort of thing is useful - in my area which is very specialist, this sort of thing is worse than useless as you are unlikely to meet anyone useful or interesting - just lots of 'facilators' and 'consultants' with that desperate look in their eye. However, it is worth at least one punt to see if it does something for you.

There is one chap that comes to one of the meetings that I organise who works for a company that makes mainly automotive parts from carbon fibre - I don't think you can get more specialised than that. It may not seem obvious but he has already been given a few leads that have turned into customers.

Sometimes it isnt the people in the room that are important it is who they might know.

I know that my carbon fibre specialist would never have guessed
that I know people who build racing cars and racing bikes who need carbon fibre products.

Maybe my post not make it clear I've been to some and I found it worse than useless? I did say that some people might find them useful but I did not - nothing more, nothing less.

You know what stops me? 6.30 starts! I am in no kind of mood for smalltalk or even pleasantries at that time of day ;-)

@Horace...sounds like you have a good networking group! In principle I'm all in favour of them but I haven't found the right one in my area, I keep an eye out for new ones though.
