"Oh No!!" I can not believe what I've done.

More than 2 years after filing for br and opening my cashminder account with the co-op I got my sums wrong. So I am now on strike 1 following insufficient funds in my account for a direct debit. How could I have been so careless and stupid :eek:. I am so bloody mad with myself :mad:. To top it all off the direct debit was for my mortgage - good one :(:(. Where is the icon for bullet to the brain? Now seriously considering opening an account with another bank just in case.

Don`t worry, this happened to me very early on with my account as well, it will just make you more vigilant with the account. Mine has been opened nearly 2 years now, and I have not come close to doing it again, but in the mean time I opened another cashminder account just in case. I also opened a basic account with the Nationwide after being discharged from BR. Opened on line with full on line banking as well.

  • i got my first strike 2 months ago as my wages went in a day late and my phone bill attempted to come out and i was £2 short ...i was a little upset by it, especially when the phone company then decided to cut me off rather than attempting to contact me for payment and then co-op sent me the letter saying they were going to charge me!! I'm not even dischrged till August :(

I'm sorry to hear about these strikes. What I've done from the start is keep my minimum balance at the level of my monthly rent. At least then I know I can always cover any regular payments, including rent, without having to worry. I spoke to the OR about this and he was fine with it after I explained how the Co-op runs their debits first and credits second.

I know that's not necessarily possible for everyone though, building up to that level of minimum balance.

Well if I recall its 3 strikes before they close your account. Sure its annoying, but if your generally very careful then I wouldn't worry too much. You'd have to mess up two more times before they'd close your account. If it happens again and your down to your last chance, then maybe consider another bank account, but for now I wouldn't stress.

hi..in an instance such as the above, try phoning the Co-op customer services, explain why the event occurred....at the very least maybe the Advisor will waive the charges?

I have even had the strikes revoked by presenting a good case...

In the vent of the above being likely to happen, phone Co-op, talk to someone there...see what can be done?

Thanks, I didnt even think about calling them tbh, I guess I'm just at the point where I don't want to have to feel like i'm having a battle with anyone (other than with the baby when he's refusing to let me wash him!).
