new graphics card

I play the Sims 3, I don't play WOW or any of the other games which need a r3eally high end graphics card.

At present I have Nvidea 8800GTX. I cannot max out all the graphic options such as high detail on a Sim or mirror reflections, if |I max them out then the game freezes constantly and the kicks me back to desktop.

Now I do know the Sims games are buggy to be polite to the programmers but I'm looking for a graphics card which will max out all these options and keep maxing them out in future expansion packs.

My limit is £100 max but obviously as this is a money saving site £70 would be better.

So, can anyone recommend a good graphics card please? I have already been recommend the EVGA 460 but as I say I only play the Sims .

Wife can play sims 3 at high details, 1920x1080 on my radeon 4670, and dual core athlon x2 2800, so the 8800gtx should manage fine.
Shes not mentioned anything about bugs at all, or crashing.

Have you tried updating to latest drivers?

Otherwise for £70, a radeon 5770 is best value by some distance.

The 8800 GTX is one they don't actualy recommend forplaying the sims 3, it comes out as fair where the others come out as being good or above. Everything has been updated.

Is your wife playing generations? if so tell her not to get the hoverbed with the points saved. It causes the original Sims 2 jump bug to kick in when sending them to bed. Also if the Sims disappear when moving them into a new house, move the out and back in and they should re appear.

I have an XFX Nvidia 8800 GTS with 384mb of memory NOT GTX.

I knew I should have let him post, cleaver !!!!!!

Ah right, the gts isn't quite as good, and with 384mb of ram, you'll find that higher resolutions and large textures will have a massive impact on performance.

Aria have a radeon 5830 for £77, or a 5850 for under £100. Both a hell of a lot faster than the card you have at the moment.

Thank you for this, my son kept saying I shouldn't have problems with the graphics card but it's unfortunately the one that EA Games will not support with the game.
